A residential burglary suspect was recently caught due to a prompt response by law enforcement in Novato, California. The suspect was caught on November 6, when the Marin County Sheriff's Office and Novato Police Department arrived and took him into custody.

Responding to an alarm from the 500 block of Atherton Ave, Novato, a deputy found the suspect, Darly Cruz, carrying multiple bags. Cruz, a 46-year-old transient male, tried to elude officers on a nearby bicycle, per the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

Cruz was initially not compliant and made threats toward a deputy, so a Taser 7 Conducted Energy Weapon, a non-lethal defensive tool, was used. This successfully subdued Cruz and enabled his capture.

Upon detaining Cruz, deputies discovered stolen jewelry and various other items from the residence. Further, it was found that Cruz had broken into the home with a discovered "front door key". The Novato Police Department uncovered a disrupted interior with jewelry items scattered and fresh boot tracks leading towards the side yard where Cruz attempted his escape.

Cruz was consequently booked into the Marin County Jail on several charges, among them being burglary, giving false identification to a peace officer, and resisting a peace officer. Cruz was identified as a parolee at large, leading to a parole violation charge added to his offenses.
