Matthew Antonio Zakrzewski, a 34-year-old male nanny, has been convicted for sexually abusing 16 boys under his care and showing pornography to another. Zakrzewski received a sentence of 705 years to life plus an additional 2 years, eight months as press released by Office of the District Attorney OCA.
Self-proclaimed as "the original Sitter Buddy", Zakrzewski leveraged his CPR training certification and rigorous background checks to seemingly legitimize his competency and reliability as a caregiver. NBC Los Angeles reports that his parents hired him, oblivious to the threat he posed.
Zakrzewski's operation came to light in May 2019, after an 8-year-old boy reported his experiences to his mother. The law apprehended Zakrzewski upon his return from Spain at LAX airport, initiating an extensive investigation into his crimes, ABC7 confirms.
Deputy District Attorney Juliet Oliver shared during the trial Zakrzewski's method in grooming both his victims and their parents. CBS Los Angeles states a pedophilia book was discovered on Zakrzewski's computer, evidencing his systematic operation.
Each of Zakrzewski's victims and their families had no previous connection to each other, indicating his intentions were to exploit those under his care. CBS Los Angeles released this information as the case unfolded.
The trial exposed many families' emotional suffering and distress. Parents likened Zakrzewski to a wolf they innocently welcomed into their homes.
Zakrzewski's Court statement revealed no regret, asserting his interactions with the children were "100 percent genuine." The Orange County District Attorney reported that parents openly expressed their grief during his testimony.
The fallout from the case has significantly impacted the victims' families. District Attorney Todd Spitzer described it as "a case of shattered innocence," as the families grapple with the lasting ramifications of Zakrzewski's heinous actions, pondering their children's potentials had they evaded such trauma.
