A Rockland man has confessed to distributing and possessing the vile materials of child sexual abuse, according to authorities. Donald J. Caruso, 42, copped charged with the sins of spreading child pornography and corrupting possession of said material in a Boston federal court, as press released U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Massachusetts.
In November 2022, and a subsequent indictment by a grand jury in December, Caruso's guilty plea has set the stage for a day of reckoning scheduled on March 8, 2024, when he will face U.S. District Court Judge Patti B. Saris for sentencing, the U.S. Attorney's Office reports. The man's downfall began with his unlawful distribution over an online communication platform, which caught the unflinching eye of an undercover agent.
The grim collection found in Caruso's home included hundreds of images and, shockingly, over three thousand videos depicting child sexual abuse material (CSAM), a fact that Caruso himself admitted to during the seizure of his devices. With the weight of the law upon him, he faces a possible maximum of 20 years imprisonment for each count and a fine that could be as steep as $250,000.
The gravity of these charges illuminates the dire consequences of such predatory offenses, with the distribution of child pornography carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and up to 20 years in the big house, not to mention the looming prospect of a lifetime of supervised release. Possession of the illicit material isn’t taken lightly either; it could cost Caruso up to 20 years of freedom, the announcement detailed.
The case against Caruso is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in 2006 by the Department of Justice that assembles a coalition of federal, state, and local forces all united for the purpose of protecting the innocence of our nation's youth.
