The unsolved 1995 murder case of Phoutone "Taun" Lothirath, a case that has been unresolved for nearly three decades, has resurfaced. Yesterday, the San Diego County Crime Stoppers and investigators from the Escondido Police Department's Cold Case Unit appealed to the public for help in identifying and locating the responsible suspect(s) as per their post.
Lothirath was fatally shot multiple times at his residence in Escondido, California, on Halloween night of 1995. Disguised as trick-or-treaters, the suspect coerced Lothirath's son to open the door, subsequently forced his way into the house, and committed the murder. The suspect partially hid their face with a bandana and left the scene immediately after the incident.
The investigation team, after scrutinizing the scene, found that two different guns were used—one inside the house and the other for firing from outside of the front window. This finding opened up the possibility of a second involved party as reported by San Diego County Crime Stoppers. The investigation document suggests that the killer might have known Lothirath personally.
The Escondido Police Department's Homicide Unit and San Diego County Crime Stoppers are incessantly working to reveal the truth. They have made an appeal, urging the public to share any information related to this case.
