Slated to open in February 2024, the newest establishment, Scobie's, will grace Adams Village, Dorchester, Boston. It promises to replicate the homey ambiance of West Coast Irish pubs; owners John and Anne Lydon aspire to create "a place where you can get a pot of tea and have a long chat with an old friend; catch a broadcast game from Ireland over an Irish breakfast or get together for a community fundraiser." The Lydons also operate the Shamrock Pub in South Boston, as reported by Boston Restaurant Talk.
Scobie's is situated at 512 Gallivan Boulevard, an address previously occupied by the Butcher Shop and Deli until it shifted to a smaller premises down the street, as per Boston Restaurant Talk. The property will feature a bar, a lounge, two fireplaces, a snug, and a take-away counter. Irish and Irish-American comfort food will dominate the menu, from hearty soups to succulent roasts, paired with traditional pours of Guinness from a specially equipped keg room.
As per Dorchester News, John Lydon acknowledges that his connections to Dorchester and Ireland significantly shaped Scobie's. He stated, "Since I was a child, my heart has been split between my mother's Dorchester roots and my father's Irish roots. Scobie's is a place where Anne and I would like to try to bring the two together, to have both elements coexist in harmony." Lydon and his wife spent their summer in Ireland, garnering ideas for their pub's decor and ambiance. They have appointed Dublin native, Chef Robert Kearney, to manage the eatery's culinary offerings.
In the last few months, the Lydons have undertaken a number of enhancements to the building at 512 Gallivan Boulevard in conjunction with their restaurant endeavor. Elevators were added to aid access to the second floor. The floor comprises office spaces for Lydon's law practice, Councilor-at-Large Erin Murphy, and other businesses, Dorchester News reported. Scobie's anticipated opening instills excitement in the community, offering a place to relish the amalgamation of Dorchester and Irish allure.
