The fatal car accident last week, on November 4, in Northridge reminds us of the tragic consequences of speed and intoxication. As reported by Hoodline, two individuals sadly passed away, and another three were seriously injured.
The incident took place at the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Lindley Avenue, causing significant damage. The vehicle was cut in half by a fire hydrant, while the other was lodged in a tree nearby a house as detailed by Hoodline. Despite these challenges, Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were able to extract and transport the three surviving occupants to a local hospital.
The Los Angeles Police Department issued an update on the collision through their press conference yesterday, formally identifying the suspect as 20-year-old Brian David Olivarez.
The LAPD reported that Olivarez was initially arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Despite his $100,000 bail, he was quickly released from custody due to insufficient evidence and transferred to hospital care.
Members of the LAPD's Multi-Disciplinary Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) collected additional evidence, allowing the case to be resubmitted to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Yesterday, Deputy District Attorney R. Demattia charged Olivarez with two counts each of murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and drug causing injury as detailed by the LAPD. His bail is now set at $4,025,000.
