A deadly dance erupted on a south Bexar County highway Monday, claiming two lives in a grim ballet of metal and speed. As cars were redirected like blood through the veins of a city in shock, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a Facebook post that State Hwy 16 S near Smith Rd. became an asphalt stage for tragedy. With all Northbound lanes obstructed, drivers shunted away to find new paths around the aftermath.
Amidst the evening's rush, two people were caught in the wrath of this vehicular storm: their vehicle struck by another, one marred by a need for speed, their lives concluded in an immediate pronouncement of death at the scene, their bodies lying as silent witnesses to the chaos that unfolded around 5:30 p.m. throwing survivors and first responders into a frenzy of flashing lights and wailing sirens, investigators scoured the scene, looking for the why and how of it all—while pieces of what once were vehicles were collected, like fragments of a story most wish had never been told. "Witnesses reported a vehicle speeding before hitting another vehicle," KSAT soberly noted.
Travelers were advised to shun the area and choose the road less traveled that night, and as the lane closures grasped the highway in a tight blockade, the flow of traffic was redirected, with the Sheriff's Office urging through social media to use alternate routes.
