With Thanksgiving just around the corner, Springfield's police force and local do-gooders are teaming up to ensure the holiday season is stuffed with joy for all. In a heartwarming display of community spirit according to the Springfield Police Department's C3 Forest Park Unit, the men and women in blue joined forces with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and AIC Rugby team to serve and scrub up a Thanksgiving feast at the local Elks lodge on Monday night.
But the giving didn’t stop at doling out drumsticks and dressing. A Wednesday initiative saw Springfield Police Cadets deliver non-perishables to power through Open Pantry Community Services, Inc. and the local radio station Rock 102's efforts in the 30th annual Mayflower Marathon, an event renowned for rallying resident support to stock the shelves of the less fortunate.
The Springfield Police Academy wasn't to be outdone, with staff and recruits donating "50 grocery bags of non-perishable food" in support of the marathon according to the announcements from their official website. The police department has laid down plans for the residents to join in the philanthropic festivities. This Saturday, they're taking their 'Stuff the Cruiser' campaign to Walmart on Boston Road, urging locals to play Santa from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and drop off a toy or two.
