San Diego's Vietnamese community is on high alert as authorities intensify their hunt for a brazen and hefty suspect accused of burglarizing and boldly casing local temples. The man, whose acts have sparked outrage and anxiety amongst worshipers, is said to have targeted several sacred sanctuaries in a single day, according to City News Service.
On the prowl from dawn till dusk on September 14, this suspect infiltrated five different Vietnamese places of worship in what's suspected to be a calculated string of crimes. He managed to make off with an undisclosed amount of cash from one of the temples. "During one of the incidents, the suspect broke into and stole an undisclosed amount of cash from a lockbox, "SDPD officer Mark Herring relayed to the Patch.
The suspect's brief description has been widely disseminated: a black man between 40 to 45 years of age, standing six feet tall, tipping the scales at around 240 pounds. His wardrobe on the day in question, not particularly covert, featured a black T-shirt, contrasted by tan shorts and black sandals. Perhaps most revealing of all, the perpetrator is believed to drive a newer model Volkswagen SUV.
San Diego County Crime Stoppers and the police are now appealing to the public, believing someone out there can place a name on this face, leading to his whereabouts. Their plea is backed by the incentive of a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. "Anyone with information on the identity or location of the suspect was asked to call the SDPD's Mid-City Division at 619-516-3064 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477," Herring imparted, a nod to the community to step forward and help restore peace to these violated havens of faith.
