Mansfield, Massachusetts, was the recent target of a series of vehicle break-ins and thefts. The Boston Globe reports that the incident on November 12 was exposed after a Fieldstone Drive resident noticed an intruder in their vehicle through a home surveillance system. The suspect fled the scene, spawning an investigation.
Police linked a white SUV found parked on the street to the crimes, which had been reported stolen in Weymouth. Aged 19, 21, and 22, respectively, three men from Brockton were then arrested, with a fourth still eluding authorities. According to a WHDH report, they face charges of breaking and entering into a vehicle at night, receiving stolen property, conspiring, and resisting arrest. A firearm, believed to be in the possession of the third arrestee, was recovered after the man was spotted by observant officers emerging from the woods near Ware Street.
Upon the resultant investigations, it was found that similar crimes had been committed across the greater Mansfield area, with reports of vehicle break-ins and thefts. NBC Boston noted that the Mansfield Police Department received incoming reports on the day of the incident, with some calls originating from nearby towns.
