Worcester's very own Habibi Smokeshop became the scene of a crime that was nipped in the bud by a vigilant passerby and swift police response. According to the Worcester Police Department via Facebook, the incident unfolded on November 25, when officers were called to 650 Main St. on reports of a commercial break-in.
Upon arrival, officers encountered a civic-minded witness who had taken the law into his own hands, quite literally, holding down a male suspect on the ground for the boys in blue. "I was driving by when I saw that the glass door to the building was smashed," the hero onlooker explained, noting that he observed the male suspect allegedly attempting to quietly slip into the business, prompting him to confront and subsequently detain the intruder.
The Worcester Police confirmed the witness's account. In a display of diligence, officers found a tote bag chock-full of stolen items and a hammer—tools of the trade—for the alleged seventeen-year-old burglar. The juvenile was promptly arrested and now faces charges including breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony, vandalism, larceny from a building, and possession of a burglarious instrument.
