A 15-year-old boy was cuffed in East Boston yesterday on firearm charges after cops found a gun and rounds of ammo in his home.
Police responded to a 10:32 p.m. call at 149 Brooks Street, where they were tipped off that the minor was armed. Upon entering the premises, officers discovered, a firearm openly displayed on a kitchen table. Moments later, they apprehended the juvenile upstairs, as the Boston Police Department detailed in a release.
The weapon in question, upon investigation, was loaded with a large-capacity magazine packed with 17 rounds. Police also noted that the gun's serial number had been defaced, further complicating the ownership trail.
Charges against the unnamed youth include unlawful possession of a firearm, ammunition, a large-capacity feeding device, and a firearm with a defaced serial number. He is slated to face the charges in East Boston District Court, as per the Boston Police Department's report.
Stakeholders are calling for deeper investigations into how juveniles are obtaining such firearms and the mechanisms needed to prevent these instances from recurring.
