Seven individuals found themselves in the grip of emergency services following a rollover crash on Interstate 495 in Berlin, as reported late Wednesday night. Massachusetts State Police are still piecing together the events that led to the accident that sent the passengers to the hospital, two sporting serious injuries.
The Berlin Fire and EMS Department, according to Boston 25 News, descended on the northbound side near mile marker 66.4 after the crash was reported. One person was entrapped in the vehicle, challenging responders, who deployed hydraulic tools to free the victim—a request for a medical helicopter could not be granted due to weather constraints.
Crews labored against the clock and the twisted metal that once was a car. The highway became an impromptu emergency room, closed for roughly 90 minutes. Two people were taken to local hospitals, and the rest were sent to a local trauma center, said officials, caught in the aftermath, as mentioned in MassLive.
An investigation spearheaded by the state police is currently underway, striving to understand the incident's cause. The Berlin Fire and EMS's press release on Facebook elaborated on how their firefighters had to employ the Jaws of Life to extract the trapped individual
