Topping the charts isn't just for Billboard anymore—the Alamo Exhibit, a trove of historical Americana, has snagged a nomination for the title of ‘Best New Attraction in America’ by USA Today 10Best, as ExpressNews reports. Just months after its grand opening, the Exhibit is already wielding influence, coming in hot at the number two spot in the prestigious competition.
But don't be fooled, because swagger isn't limited to the artifacts of yore. The Alamo Exhibit flaunts historical hardware from the mission and battle site's storied 300-year saga, including prized pieces donated by British rocker Phil Collins and Spanish colonial relics courtesy of artist Donald Yena. The Exhibit didn't just pop out of the Texas soil—it's been drawing the masses to the tune of approximately 175,000 visitors since its March inception, all while grillin' and chillin' in the Texas sun. The numbers are set to notch up to 185,000 by 2023’s curtain call, according to ExpressNews.
Jonathan Huhn, the Alamo Communications Director, couldn't help but revel in the glory, boasting to ExpressNews about the center's 100,000th visitor by August 3, 2023, a mere five months after its grand opening. This is just a taste, with plans for a bigger museum and visitor center set to open in 2027. The admission fee hasn't barred history buffs either, with adult tickets priced at $14 and discounts available for an array of guests.
And talk about tough competition; while the Alamo holds tight to numero dos, it's Little Plumeria Farms in Hawaii that's currently the top dog, charming visitors with vivid floral fields and farm tours, USA Today does not save on praises for the Hawaiian gem. Meanwhile, back at the Alamo, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham rallies the troops, encouraging Texans to vote for the exhibit every blessed day until Christmas if they can swing it, all in hopes of nabbing the ‘Best New Attraction’ title, with the final announcement poised for January 5, as Alamo Trust reports.
One trip to the exhibit's official site, and you'll find the Trust singing its own praises, noting not only its nomination for this year’s best attraction but reminiscing about snagging the "Best Free Attraction" in a previous USA Today 10Best Readers' Choice Awards. The Alamo is not resting on its laurels or lingering in historical obscurity; instead, it's marching forward full steam to the drumbeat of visitor engagement and digital daily votes, looking to capture yet another title for its expansive Texas trophy case.
