In Cypresswood, quick action from a watchful citizen led to the apprehension of two men suspected of driving under the influence on Tuesday. Deputies from Constable Mark Herman's Office, responding to a call in the 200 block of Cypresswood Drive, encountered an unusual scene—a vehicle abandoned in a ditch, its driver having fled. A sharp-eyed observer didn't let the incident slide; instead, they tailed the driver, Carlos Sanchez, as he was picked up and whisked off to work by an associate, Henry Sariles.
According to a statement from Herman's office, the pair exhibited clear signs of intoxication upon the deputies' arrival. It was the witness's vigilance that allowed officials to identify and apprehend the suspects at their workplace. Both men underwent Standard Field Sobriety Tests, which seemed to confirm suspicions—alcohol had indeed clouded their judgment. A loaded firearm was also found inside of Sanchez's vehicle, compounding the gravity of the situation.
"They were arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail," Constable Mark Herman mentioned in the Facebook post. Sanchez faced charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a weapon. On the other hand, Sariles, who was already wanted on several open Class C warrants, now faces an additional charge of driving while intoxicated. The circumstances that evening could have spiraled into a greater tragedy, but the intervention of law enforcement, prompted by a responsibly involved citizen, prevented further harm.
Details regarding bond and court proceedings for the duo are pending. But in the eyes of the law, their path had reached a momentary halt—a consequence of choices made and the hazards of neglecting the responsibilities that come with maneuvering a vehicle on the shared roads of our communities. The Harris County legal system will now deliberate the next steps for Sanchez and Sariles, as their actions are examined under the scrutiny of justice.
