Downtown Arlington is gearing up for its 19th Annual Holiday Lights Parade, which promises to be a Yuletide extravaganza like no other. Dec. 9 is the date to mark on your calendars when the heart of Arlington will sparkle with festive floats, enchanting lights, and merry melodies starting at 2:00 p.m. until about 9:00 p.m., as per the City of Arlington, Texas.
Elle Stubbs, a devoted parade volunteer since its inception back in 2001, wove a tapestry of community and celebration, stating, "The Holiday Lights Parade is a way to kick off Christmas season as a community. We want to create a magical experience for families to come and make memories together and see all of the great things that are happening here in Downtown", according to the City of Arlington, Texas.
Before the parade floats invade the streets, the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library is transforming into Santa’s very own photo studio. Kids, and those who are kids at heart, can snap a precious moment with Jolly Old Saint Nick from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. amidst the Vandergriff Poinsettia Tree. And, while you’re at it, signing up for a library card might just be the smartest move Santa suggests this year.
The parade, featuring more than 100 entries, including marching bands and classic cars, is slated to roll out at 6 p.m. But the fun begins even before the sun sets. Family-friendly activities will adorn various spots, from the First Baptist Church to Founders Plaza and J. Gilligan's Grill. The Grand Marshal waving from this year’s line-up is none other than Texas Rangers Hitting Coach Seth Conner, accompanied by his family.
And as the last float takes a bow, Mayor Jim Ross, in unison with Santa Claus, will cast a spell of lights upon the Downtown Christmas Tree in an illuminating display at 7 p.m. sharp. But the night doesn’t fade with the tree’s twinkling lights. Get your cameras ready once more as Santa obliges with more photo ops at Levitt Pavilion—a perfect finale to an evening steeped in festivity and cheer, not forgetting a special appearance by Mrs. Claus and tunes by DJ Gurrl until 9 p.m.
