The mystery of a missing North Texas woman took a turn when she was found unharmed after a ransom scare, authorities said. Amber Garcia, a 27-year-old resident of Arlington, had been the subject of a tense search after disappearing earlier this month.
Initially taken into custody by DeSoto police on a misdemeanor charge on Dec. 1, Garcia was released the same day, subsequently vanishing into a worrying silence. Following her release, texts began to pop up claiming she was being held for ransom. In a bizarre twist, it was unclear who was tormenting her family with such messages, according to FOX 4 News.
After days of uncertainty and fear, Garcia was located and deemed safe on the evening of Dec. 7. News of her safety was a relief to her family and the community alike. The DeSoto Police Department, which has been tight-lipped about the details of Garcia's ordeal, confirmed her well-being.
The DeSoto PD, responsible for the case since Garcia was last seen there, coordinated efforts leading to the reunion with her kin. Putting to rest the unnerving situation, the absence of facts surrounding her disappearance has yet to be filled in by official narratives. Garcia's mother started receiving the alarming notifications on December 3, a couple of days after her daughter's detainment, as reported by WFAA.
With Garcia back safe, the investigation into the circumstances that led to her mysterious absence and the source of the ransom demands is ongoing. DeSoto police have yet to release more information as they continue to delve into what exactly transpired in the days of Garcia's disappearance.
