The collision occurred in the 10500 block of the South State Highway 130 service road northbound, near Maha Loop Road—infamously known for another fatal accident just a month prior. The Texas Department of Public Safety says the crash took place around 4:15 p.m. when a passenger car and dump truck collided, the result of a disastrous failure to yield at an intersection. In the words of Sgt. Deon Cockrell, "One had a stop sign and one did not. As a result, the crash occurred at the intersection," according to FOX 7 Austin.
The sole survivor of this calamity was whisked away by a STAR Flight helicopter and delivered to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with injuries severe enough to brush with death's door, as detailed by KVUE.
