The weather in Atlanta is going to be a wet one this weekend, with forecasters predicting showers and gusty winds over the next few days. According to the National Weather Service, there's a 30 percent chance of rainfall kicking in after 5:00 p.m. today, and with overcast skies, temperatures will hover around a mild 56 degrees, bolstered by an east wind that might kick up to 20 miles per hour at times.
For those planning on stepping out tonight, you might want to pack an umbrella as showers are expected to drench the city with an 80 percent chance of precipitation forecasted, while the mercury dips to around 47 degrees—the rain could add up between a quarter to half an inch. The east wind will keep blowing through the evening, with gusts possibly hitting the 20-mph mark, so hold onto your hats, folks; it's not letting up just yet.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the wet weather will likely continue at least through the morning with a 60 percent chance of showers until about 11:00 a.m.; skies should remain mostly cloudy with a high of 55 degrees, and shifting winds moving from northeast to northwest in the afternoon could see gusts reaching up to 25 mph. The National Weather Service also indicates potential new rainfall amounts between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
As the evening rolls on, the chance for showers drops dramatically to just 10 percent before stopping altogether by 7:00 p.m.; afterwards, it's expected to be mostly cloudy with a low settling around 40, but keep a lookout because northwest winds could get particularly blustery, gusting as high as 35 mph. The start of the workweek looks promising, though. Monday's forecast shines a beacon of sunlight with clearer skies and an invigorating high of 53 degrees, but those northwest winds aren't taking a break; they're slated to keep up the pace at 15 to 20 mph, sometimes kicking up to 30 mph.
The rest of the week shows a promising trend towards cooler and dry conditions; Tuesday is anticipated to be sunny with highs in the mid-40s and nighttime lows dropping significantly to around the upper-20s. Wednesday and Thursday keep the mostly sunny streak alive, with temperatures climbing up close to the mid-50s for daytime highs, while the evenings will be partly to mostly cloudy with lows ranging from the 30s to 40 degrees. Friday then wraps up the week with a partly sunny day and highs expected to hit close to 60 degrees—a relatively temperate end to a week that's starting off on a soggy note.
