Early this morning, a run-of-the-mill traffic obstruction escalated into charges for one inebriated Atlanta driver, according to the Atlanta Police Department. Around 4:40 am, officers stumbled upon a vehicle that had inconveniently stalled smack in the middle of traffic near Bolton Pl and Marietta Blvd, according to a detailed report by the department.
The driver, Kieran Smith, born December '92, exhibited clear signs of intoxication but refused to even engage by rolling down his window. Piling poor decision on top of poor decision, Smith then decided to back his car into the officer’s patrol vehicle, which was conveniently unattended, attempting to take flight at a jarring speed of 5–10 MPH.
According to the officers' recount, they were then compelled to shatter the driver-side window with their department-issued baton to extract the stubborn roadblock Smith had become. Smith was taken into custody thereafter, without causing any further commotion.
Smith is now charged with "DUI Less Safe," "Striking a Fixed Object," "Reckless Driving," and "Felony Obstruction," the Atlanta PD conveyed. His vehicle didn't get off scot-free either; it was seized and tucked away for evidence and processing.
