Residents in Atlanta's Piedmont Heights neighborhood were left high and dry after a suspected water main break caused a major shutdown on Tuesday night. The trouble emerged on Monroe Drive near Montgomery Ferry Drive, and there's no word yet from the Atlanta Watershed Management on when the taps will be turned back on.
The rupture sent water spewing across streets, and city officials have confirmed that about 50 houses and a handful of fire hydrants are feeling the squeeze, according to Atlanta News First. The eastern part of Montgomery Ferry Drive is blocked to traffic.
Those affected can track the progress of the repairs on Atlanta’s water service interruption map, available through the city’s watershed management website. No official time has been given for when the disruption will end.
A short drive away in DeKalb County, drivers need to reroute their plans as Marbut Road in Lithonia is set for a month-long closure. Crews there are taking on the daunting task of repairing both water and sewer lines, detouring traffic between Lithonia Industrial Boulevard and South Stone Mountain Lithonia Road, FOX 5 Atlanta reports.
