An Atlanta veteran who has dedicated his life to assisting the homeless faces a personal setback after his truck was stolen outside an East Point Target. The theft occurred in broad daylight, around 3:15 p.m, as the victim, known as Evans, did some Christmas shopping.
"I come out and my truck is gone. I didn’t think it was gone immediately. I thought I may have parked it in the wrong place," Evans told WSB-TV. According to the interview, his vehicle, a paid-off Range Rover, was crucial to his mission of helping those less fortunate through his organization, 'Noah’s Ark Atlanta'.
Beyond the theft of his means of transportation, the SUV also contained gifts meant for others. This incident comes as a particular blow during the holiday season, where, the spirit of giving is often celebrated more than at any other time in the year.
The efforts to replace the stolen vehicle have led to the creation of a GoFundMe page, which details the many roles that Evans fills: Disabled Veteran, Father, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, Son, Author, Motivational Speaker, and Activist. "So, I hope you can find it in your hearts and lend a helping hand. This would be greatly appreciated, anything helps." reads the description on the fundraiser's page, emphasizing the man's dedication to supporting others. The Eastpoint Police are currently investigating the incident, checking the area for potential camera footage that may have captured the theft.
Evans expressed the crippling effect of the theft on his ability to serve, saying, "It’s like they chopped my legs off", as per WSB-TV report. His work not only includes running a non-profit but also a massage business, both of which have been hindered following the truck's disappearance. The community he's built his life around assisting is now rallying to support him in his time of need.
