Tragedy struck the heart of Texas once more as a spate of violence left six dead and injured three, including two law enforcement officers—one an Austin Police Department officer and the other from the Austin Independent School District police. The shootings, which occurred across Austin and Bexar County, have prompted a stern response from Governor Greg Abbott, who vowed to crack down on such acts of violence.
In a statement released following the deadly incidents, Abbott condemned the actions of the "hardened criminal" responsible for the bloodshed. "Texans grieve for the loved ones of the six Texans who were murdered by a hardened criminal who must never see the light of day again," he said. The gun violence spree also resulted in injuries to an Austin Police Department officer and a member of the Austin Independent School District police force, as stated in the Office of the Texas Governor.
"Cecilia and I ask our fellow Texans to join us in lifting in prayer the families and loved ones of those who were killed", as well as the Texans who are recovering from injuries, including an Austin Police Officer and an Austin Independent School District police officer," Abbott shared in a heartfelt appeal for unity and compassion in the face of adversity, as per Office of the Texas Governor.
