The incident, which transpired on December 26, began with a distress call at approximately 1:18 p.m., the caller, later confirmed to be Khorshahian himself, reported a man with a rifle in the lot but disconnected abruptly, leaving the situation tense and uncertain; within minutes, APD officers arrived at 1501 East Howard Lane to confront the purported gunman. It was at this juncture, as they patrolled the parking lot, that Khorshahian pointed what looked like a rifle at them—being unsure if it was genuine or a replica, the officers took cover and confronted the man, demanding he lowers his weapon.
Notably, the grave situation peaked when at 1:28 p.m., Khorshahian, according to officers, shouted his desire to be shot by police, a disturbing request that was soon met with gunfire. Moments later, the air rang with the chilling announcement, "Shots fired," after which Khorshahian lay wounded, this sequence of events and the final encounter, the one Austin police officer who discharged his firearm has been on the force for four and a half years and is now on administrative duty, reported by the Austin Police Department.
