Early yesterday morning, a high-speed chase unfolded as California Highway Patrol officers, assisted by CHP helicopter H30, pursued a vehicle across three counties on a reckless driving rampage. According to CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations, the vehicle was clocked, going over 120 mph across the Oakland Bay Bridge, initiating what became a 45-minute pursuit.
The aerial support provided by H30 allowed ground units to safely disengage and strategize their capture, setting up spike strips, which eventually led to the dramatic end of the chase. After the suspect's vehicle collided with them, the vehicle lost multiple tires and the driver was unable to maintain control. Coming to a halt, the ground officers moved in and the chase concluded with five occupants being taken into custody, as detailed by the CHP Golden Gate Division Air Operations' Facebook page.
The CHP Contra Costa is now handling the investigation following the incident, which thankfully did not result in any reported injuries despite the high speeds and potential for danger presented by the suspects' actions.
