Belmont cops are scouring for clues in a vicious hit-and-run that left a 64-year-old man fighting for his life. According to a bulletin from the Belmont Police Department, officers were summoned to the 1600 block of El Camino Real late on December 15 after horrified witnesses reported that a man had been mowed down by a vehicle that sped away into the night. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel who swiftly initiated life-saving procedures, the man, a local and whose name has been withheld, was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.
The suspect driver took the coward's route and peeled away from the scene, leaving the victim in the cold, dark street. The search is now on for a black or dark-colored 2005-2011 Toyota Tacoma, believed to have significant front-end damage from the collision, last seen heading northbound towards Harbor Blvd. The BPD released a statement urgently requesting the public's assistance. Anyone who might have been in the area with dash cameras active or security footage that could have caught a glimpse of the incident is being asked to step up.
