In the pre-dawn dimness of Austin's SH 71 near the gateway to the skies, a city's guardian lay injured at the hands of a suspected inebriated driver. The crash involving an Austin Police officer and the alleged drunk driver occurred close to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
The officer, committed to the peace of the slumbering town, was taken aback—quite literally—when their squad car was struck from behind while attending to a collision, reported by CBS Austin.
⚠️ 🚗 TRAVEL ALERT: SH71 eastbound is closed due to a crash just before the Presidential Dr exit to the airport. The Spirit of Texas Dr exit is still open! Please take Spirit of Texas Dr to the terminal & give yourself extra time to make it to AUS.

The traffic arteries were clotted till the break of dawn, but before the city fully awoke, before 8 a.m., the eastbound lanes of SH 71 were flowing freely once again—an update reported by officials at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, according to KXAN.
