A bogus call to the city's 311 tip line sent Boston police scrambling to a Roslindale residence on Christmas Day after a hoax shooter was reported. Officers arrived around 5:30 p.m. at 15 Augustus Ave., only to find that there was no evidence of a shooting. As reported by NBC Boston, this address is notably close to the home of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu.
According to WWLP, the incident is still under active investigation as authorities aim to pin down the person responsible for the fear-stirring prank.
Hoax calls involving alleged violent incidents pose a double-edged sword for law enforcement and public safety. On one hand, they test the emergency response protocols of the police; on the other, they potentially redirect resources from genuine emergencies. Boston Police have not shared details on any suspects or motives behind this latest hoax but have emphasized that such pranks are no laughing matter, carrying serious criminal consequences.
Boston Police has yet to release further details.
