The Austin Police Department is currently investigating a shooting where officers were forced to discharge their weapons. The incident, which happened on December 2nd, involved a man named Christophe Vanover and took place at 1124 Brecon Lane, as reported by the City of Austin.
Officers were called to the scene after Vanover was reported to be cutting his wrist with a box cutter in an apparent suicide attempt. The situation escalated quickly when the officers entered Vanover's home. Arriving at 9:31 a.m., a mere seven minutes after the initial distress call, they found Vanover armed, this time with a firearm.
Despite attempts to de-escalate using a taser, shots were fired after the taser proved ineffective against the armed man. No other civilians or officers were injured in the incident, according to the Austin Police Department.
