An elderly woman was subjected to a brutal beating during a home invasion robbery in Valinda, suffering serious injuries to her face and head. The suspect, identified by Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Major Crimes Bureau detectives as Jeremy Dates, was arrested in Upland following an exhaustive investigation. According to a Facebook post by the department, the crime lab was immediately put to work on the scene which led to Dates' identification.
With a bail set at $200,000, Dates now faces a court appearance scheduled for December 21 at the West Covina Courthouse. The Major Crimes Bureau's Burglary Robbery Task Force, having been in the business of addressing such violent crimes for over a decade, snared him during a routine traffic stop on December 19. Details surrounding his capture were sparse, but the operation reflects a continued commitment to curb the spate of violent robberies terrorizing Southern California neighborhoods.
The ongoing investigation seeks to uncover any connections between Dates and a series of similar incidents, suggesting a potential pattern of conduct.
Community members are being urged to remain vigilant, securing homes, and eyeing the abnormal, the task force points to precautions as the first line of defense against such invasions.
