The chaos began just after 5:00 a.m. near the 710 Freeway interchange, where shots rang out in what authorities are investigating as a car-to-car shooting, ABC7 reported.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the violent episode, swiftly closing lanes and issuing a SigAlert as they commenced their search for evidence. Livid drivers were stalled for miles, the standstill lasting until approximately 8:30 a.m. when the roadway was reopened. According to Officer Marco Lizarraga, a spokesperson for the CHP, two males were taken to a hospital and were "undergoing surgery," but details regarding the extent of their injuries were initially unclear, ABC7 reported.
A white Honda Accord, exhibiting a bullet hole in its passenger-side door, was towed away from the scene.
Authorities began escorting stranded vehicles off the roadway around South Soto Street. Both victims were found with gunshot wounds and are reported to be in critical condition, CBS News Los Angeles stated. No arrests have been made, and the suspect, along with any potential motivation for the shooting, remains unidentified.
