Last Friday, a construction worker on Cape Cod narrowly escaped a life-threatening situation when trapped under a piece of heavy machinery. The incident, which saw local emergency responders and a Boston MedFlight team spring into action, unfolded on December 22 at a construction company when a 911 call came in at around 4:40 p.m. about an individual pinned under a loader bucket.

The Orleans Police Department and fire crews arrived on the scene within just a few minutes, they found the worker in a precarious situation, with the loader bucket ominously weighing down upon him. The first responders worked to not only stabilize the threatening vehicle but to comfort and treat the victim—administering IV fluids and pain management medications under the leaking hydraulic oil.

According to a Facebook post from the local fire department, it took a tense 20 minutes to carefully lift the loader bucket off the patient.

A rescue engine from the Brewster Fire Department was called in to assist. Once extricated, the man was quickly taken by ambulance to a nearby field where a helicopter was waiting to swiftly transport him to a Boston trauma center for further treatment.
