Taking to social media, the department shared highlights from this past week, including the foiling of an e-bike heist. According to their Facebook page, Officer Lin encountered a man in the act of making off with an electric bicycle. A tumble from the bike led to his arrest and subsequent booking for resisting arrest and grand theft.
The department's vigilance continued as Officer Wallag pulled a car over for missing license plate tabs and a traffic infraction. The situation escalated when the driver decided to make a run for it, only to be caught pedaling away on a stolen bike. "During patrol, Officer Wallag pulled over a car lacking license plate tabs and committing a traffic violation," reported the Carlsbad Police Department. The offender now faces charges, including parole violations and possession of stolen property.
Keeping the city's streets safe from impaired drivers was also on the agenda, as Officer Solorio arrested a driver veering into oncoming traffic. The City of Carlsbad PD noted an alarming number of 12 DUI arrests this week alone, stressing the importance of sober driving and utilizing alternative transportation methods for those under the influence.
Officer Melendrez's sharp eye led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle at a local gas station. Upon searching the vehicle, an assortment of questionable items surfaced, painting a picture of criminal enterprise. "A search of the car revealed laptops, checks, cellphones, drug paraphernalia, and a counterfeit driver’s license," the department shared. The driver's spree ended with charges including possession of a stolen vehicle and the use of a fraudulent driver’s license.
