The City of Carrollton has once again been recognized for its commitment to cleaner air and energy conservation, grabbing the Gold Fleet award for the fourth consecutive year from the Dallas-Fort Worth Clean Cities (DFWCC) Coalition. This nod is a testament to the city's efforts in effectively reducing its petroleum consumption and improving the air quality of its citizens, according to the City of Carrollton, Texas.
With its latest environmental milestone, Carrollton joins six other North Texas cities in a collaborative triumph that has seen the region slash a significant 29.78 million gallons in gasoline gallon equivalent, as well as cutting down 56 tons of nitrogen oxides and 176,226 tons of greenhouse gas emissions in 2022. Moreover, Dwayne Bianco, Carrollton Fleet and Facilities Director, celebrated this achievement by saying, “The City strives to continually improve emissions controls for our citizens and local employers”, per the City of Carrollton, Texas.
Since Carrollton outsourced its fleet operation to Vector Fleet Management in 2010 under a managed competition philosophy, it has managed to become one of DFW's leaders in conservation and pollution prevention. Managed competition has the city taking proposals, spurring positive changes in quality and operating costs, unlike the traditional in-house operations which often grant monopoly.
The Gold Fleet award doesn't come easy. It demands significant strides in implementing the city's environmental policies. Participants must detail their efforts towards cleaner operations, like using alternative fuel vehicles and improving operational efficiency with advanced technology. Outperforming their peers, the City of Carrollton and Denton County Transportation Authority were spotlighted for presenting the most effective strategies for NOx reduction with Carrollton boosting NOx reduction by a notable 256 pounds.
