
Buckhead residents faced a wet nightmare this holiday as two water main breaks caused extensive flooding and utility disruptions. The incidents, which occurred over the weekend near the Venue Brookwood Apartments on Colonial Homes Drive, WSB Radio reported.
The effects of the breaks were widespread, with low water pressure forcing businesses and Piedmont Hospital to scramble. Resident Braden Hoskovec, witnessing the chaos, said, "It was like a river flowing outside of the building," according to WSB Radio. Atlanta Watershed, Atlanta Gas Light, and Atlanta Fire and Rescue responded.
The brunt of the disaster left hundreds of Buckhead locals stranded without water and gas, "We have no water," claimed a resident named Penny, "Nobody's cooking. Nobody's bathing," FOX 5 detailed.
The impact spanned several complexes and homes, affecting eight apartment complexes, ten homes, and seven fire hydrants. Crews worked diligently to control the damage after shutting off a 16-inch main, yet, residents' utilities remained offline, their holiday "Although water and gas have since returned to normal service for some residents, others say their Christmas is still cancelled," one individual recounted the losses to FOX 5, as reported by hoodline.
The inquiry into what triggered the water mains to rupture is ongoing.
