A holiday shopping trip turned violent on Christmas Eve when a woman was robbed and stabbed in Moreno Valley, California. The Riverside County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident occurred around 7:05 p.m. in the 24900 block of Sunnymead Boulevard. The suspect, identified as a 20-year-old male, allegedly approached the victim, threatened her, and then proceeded not only forcibly to take her purse and jewelry but also stabbed her before fleeing on foot.
Despite the attacker having initially evaded capture in the chaos that ensued, deputies later were able to locate a suspect successfully. Upon canvassing the area, a male fitting the suspect’s description was found at a park nearby, still clinging to the victim's stolen goods. According to a statement obtained by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the authorities positively identified the assailant as Deondre Outley Jones, a local resident. Jones is currently facing charges including robbery, attempted murder, and criminal threats.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a hospital with moderate injuries. Officials say she is expected to survive.
After his arrest, Jones was taken into custody and housed at the Robert Presley Detention Center, where his bail was set at a whopping $1 million. The authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the event or who possesses video evidence to step forward and assist by contacting Deputy Jennifer Arellano at the Moreno Valley Station by calling 951-486-6700.
