A man trapped for days in a treacherous crevasse near Point Loma, San Diego, was saved in a rescue operation involving the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Cave and Technical Rescue Team, alongside San Diego rescue crews. The San Diego Fire, Chula Vista Fire, and San Diego Lifeguards faced challenging conditions due to rain and rising surf that had impeded previous rescue attempts.
Rescuers labored through the night, relying on hot packs, blankets, and electrolytes to stabilize the man's condition while they strategized his safe extraction over nearly 20 hours, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Facebook post.
The Cave Team utilized micro blasting techniques—a method seldom employed due to its complexity and the meticulous training it requires—to free the man's legs that were pinned by rocky debris. This delicate operation involved the careful placement of charges to fracture and displace the rocky obstruction without causing harm to the trapped individual.
The man was conveyed to a local hospital to receive further medical care, with the precise nature of his condition remaining undisclosed.
