The Dallas community mourns the tragic loss of 66-year-old Janet Childs, who was discovered deceased a day after being reported missing. Dallas police were called to a scene on the 9200 block of Forney Road on December 10, 2023, finding Childs dead upon arrival. While the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear, authorities are treating this incident as an unexplained death. Her case has been filed under the number 219355-2023, according to the Dallas Police Department.
Previously, the Dallas Police Department had issued an urgent plea to the public asking for assistance in locating Childs, widely distributing her description and last known whereabouts. Having been last seen on December 9 around noon, walking away in green sweatpants and a beige jacket, Childs was described as someone who might require help. Many in the community, made aware by a department notice, were on the lookout for a 5’04” woman, a 125-pound-weighing spirit with brown hair and eyes, clad in determination and blue tennis shoes.
The Dallas Police Department's call for public aid had resonated with the city's residents, hoping for Childs's safe return. They emphasized her last known sighting in the 9000 block of Tampas Lane, expressing concern for her well-being, as she had departed the location on foot and could need assistance. The 66-year-old was heartbreakingly found dead the following day, presenting investigators with the task of piecing together the final moments of her life.
Investigators have not released details on the cause of death or if any foul play is suspected in the demise of Childs, who was previously seen lively walking in her neighborhood.
