Chaos reigned on Highway 290 near Dripping Springs Thursday morning as a multi-vehicle pileup injured over a dozen people, including one of Hays County's own deputies. The dramatic scene unfolded near Headwaters Boulevard and saw 13 people suffer injuries in a tangle of twisted metal, the Hays County Sheriff's Office confirmed. Aside from the deputy, the injured, thankfully, sustained only minor wounds from the highway havoc, as reported by CBS Austin.

The calamity was triggered around 8:15 a.m. and tangled up six vehicles, including an 18-wheeler that slammed into cars stopped at a light, in its wrath. Emergency crews shut down all eastbound lanes while westbound traffic squeezed through a solitary open lane, though all lanes have waved through traffic once again. "I felt an impact on the back of the car, then the back windshield blew out," Caryn Pacelli said, as per KXAN.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has stepped in to take the helm of the investigation. In a collision where broken glass and bent bumpers spoke of narrow escapes, "Everybody that I came across in this accident was at least talking," Ortiz said, according to KXAN.
