
The Riverside Sheriff’s Department reported that a 2014 Toyota Yaris was involved in a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of Winchester Road and Margarita Road, claiming the driver's life early Wednesday morning.
Deputies from the Southwest Station responded to the scene after the incident occurred at approximately 1:06 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the driver inside the Toyota, unresponsive. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by arriving medical personnel, the Department confirmed.
The Southwest Station Traffic Team has taken over the investigation to discern the events leading up to the collision. Initial findings suggest that the vehicle was speeding southbound on Winchester Road before colliding with the center median, just west of Margarita Road. The involvement of alcohol or drugs has not been identified.
The accident necessitated a temporary shutdown of Winchester Road west of Margarita Road as investigators processed the scene. Officials have withheld the identity of the deceased, pending notification of the next of kin.
