The California Highway Patrol's (CHP) dogged pursuit ended in the re-arrest of a DUI suspect who gave them the slip after killing a passenger in a grisly crash earlier this year. Abarca Tianguiz, who was behind the wheel of the gray sedan that collided with a tow truck on I-880, had initially been nabbed for driving under the influence and manslaughter, only to walk away from his court date, disappearing into the wind. The man was supposed to show face in court but decided missing his date with justice was the better choice.

On April 23, a tragic incident unfolded on the I-880 when Tianguiz's vehicle plowed into the tow truck, resulting in the death of his passenger. According to CHP Hayward's Facebook post, he was arrested and for driving without a license along with the other charges, and was locked up in Santa Rita County Jail only to be released with the promise of returning to court. But Tianguiz broke the promise and became a fugitive from the law.

In a relentless effort to bring Tianguiz to book, CHP's Investigation Services Unit tracked him down, leading to his capture yesterday. The arrest was not just a boon for law enforcement but was also met with the hope from the authorities that it would bring the victim's family some closure. "Yesterday, CHP’s Investigation Services Unit (ISU) was able to track down Tianguiz where he was arrested and booked into Santa Rita County Jail," details from the official CHP Hayward's account of the events read.
