The Eden Prairie Police Department (EPPD) has bolstered its community safety network, welcoming five fresh faces to its ranks of Reserve Officers. In a ceremony held last Thursday, the new graduates marked the culmination of a rigorous six-week training session, according to the details shared on the EPPD official announcement. The quintet of volunteers—Deepak Chinta, Justin Kazmark, Robert Lawton, AK Ravikumar, and Hannah Schmidt—immersed themselves in a curriculum courtesy of the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, encompassing a variety of law enforcement topics.
The comprehensive training saw these reserve officers delve into the intricacies of handling crime scenes, master the synergy with Police K-9 units, and navigate the challenges of Water Patrol. They were also schooled in officer safety protocols, providing them with the essential foundation for their journey into law enforcement organizations. Each new recruit is also put through their paces with traffic-directing school and equipped with lifesaving skills in first-aid, CPR, and AED certification classes.
In addition to the initial training, Eden Prairie reserve officers are expected to regularly enhance their skill sets. They are required to partake in monthly department-specific training sessions and diligently work through a training manual to stay sharp and prepared. These volunteer reserves hold a critical role, supporting full-time officers during emergencies, community events, and other assignments demanding special attention.
Eden Prairie's Reserve Unit, in its commitment to community engagement and safety, continues to seek out public-spirited individuals eager to contribute. For those interested in joining the ranks of these dedicated volunteers, the Reserve Unit encourages prospects to visit the EPPD website for more information. Applicants can view the Reserves information and take their first step by submitting an application online. The Reserve Unit is currently recruiting new members, aiming to build on their invaluable connection with the community they serve.
