An elderly resident was critically injured with severe burns in a San Leandro house fire on Thursday evening, as confirmed by the KRON4 News. The Alameda County Fire Department received the call and immediately responded to the one-alarm blaze on the 1500 block of Thrush Avenue at around 8:09 p.m.
The firefighters arrived to find light smoke emanating from the house and were able to contain the flames to the back bedroom, which was "fully engulfed" when the resident was found inside. They managed to extinguish the fire and rescue the victim, who was then rushed to a hospital for treatment. The fire resulted in two other people and two dogs also being displaced from their home, reported The Mercury News.
While fire officials are still probing into the cause of the fire, the Red Cross stepped in to assist the displaced individuals and pets in the aftermath, as was highlighted in the incident briefing. The fire team kept the incident to a one-alarm call and successfully rescued the critical resident located within the worst part of the blaze.
In a social media advisory, the Alameda County Fire Department urged the community to steer clear of Thrush Avenue. At the same time, the emergency services tackled the fire, ensuring the neighborhood's safety and aiding in the rapid response of the fire units. This allowed them to focus on the critical task of subduing the inferno and mitigating further loss. Details concerning the extent of damage to the property and the full impacts on the occupants are ongoing, with the investigation to determine the fire's origin and cause still underway.
