A quiet Chula Vista neighborhood became the scene of a domestic tragedy when a 69-year-old woman was fatally stabbed and her 42-year-old daughter wounded on Wednesday night. The Chula Vista Police Department reported to a disturbing call around 8:03 p.m. at a home on the 1500 block of Yanonali Avenue, according to the authorities.
The first responders arrived swiftly to find a car hastily leaving the premises. In a desperate effort to intercept, the police gave chase as the driver barreled through the streets in a perilous escape attempt. Meanwhile, other officers discovered the gravely injured elderly woman inside the house, where they performed emergency medical procedures before she was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead. Her daughter sustained cuts to her arm and was deemed to be in stable condition after being transported to a medical facility.
The ensuing pursuit ended in a volatile collision when the suspected assailant, a 41-year-old male who was married to the surviving victim, crashed into a divider on I-805 northbound at the I-8 interchange in San Diego. Law enforcement officers suspect the crash was an intentional act. Braced with the inevitability of their duty, they attempted to save the suspect's life, but he too was later declared dead at a hospital from injuries sustained in the wreck.
Details are sparse as investigators work to piece together the moments leading up to the violent incident. According to officials, the couple resided in the home where the attack transpired. The reason behind the man’s decision to attack his wife and mother-in-law remains an unanswered question haunting the community. As of now, the identities of those involved have not been released, preserving a shroud of anonymity as the investigation unfolds.
Authorities are urging anyone with information that might shed light on this domestic horror to come forward. Individuals who wish to do so anonymously can reach out to San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or submit a tip through the P3tips website or mobile application.
