A pre-dawn blaze ripped through a family home in Converse, leaving five people and a dog without a roof over their heads, according to officials. Heavy smoke and flames were already engulfing the structure when firefighters arrived on the scene at the 7500 block of Copper Cove, reports KSAT.
The emergency services responded to the call at around 12:45 a.m. Friday, finding three adults, two children, and their pet dog had narrowly escaped the flame-ridden home; thankfully, no injuries were reported, the narrow escape a small mercy amid the chaos of the fire that firefighters suggested may have originated from a failing water softener, although the exact cause remains unknown and under investigation as stated in a report by KENS 5.
While the fire was mostly contained to the garage and the front of the house, smoke damage has been reported throughout the residence, rendering it uninhabitable. The Bexar County Emergency Services District estimates the damage to be around $100,000—a substantial hit to the homeowners in the wake of such a devastating event.
The American Red Cross has stepped in to assist the displaced family, now facing the daunting task of rebuilding their lives; however, details on their current living situation or plans for the immediate future remain undisclosed, but the road to recovery is long, with the loss of personal effects and the comfort of home weighing heavily, as indicated by reported actions from KSAT.
