A tragic collision in Perris ended in fatalities late Wednesday night, as reported by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. The incident, which occurred on the 2200 block of North Perris Boulevard, involved a 2002 Honda Accord and a 2014 Nissan Quest.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered the critically injured driver of the Honda unresponsive, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department stated in a press release. Despite being quickly transported to a nearby hospital, the individual succumbed to their injuries. The other driver, behind the wheel of the Nissan Quest, sustained minor injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Perris Station Reconstruction Team took over the investigation, which is still in progress. Initial reports suggest that the Nissan was pulling out of a parking lot onto the northbound lanes right before the collision. The Honda, traveling on the same road, then struck the rear end of the Nissan, causing it to cross over to the other side of the street. Whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident has not been determined.

As the investigation continues, the identity of the deceased has been withheld pending notification of the next of kin. A temporary shutdown of the affected portion of North Perris Boulevard was necessary to allow authorities to process the accident scene. In their effort to piece together the events leading to the fatal event, law enforcement officials are calling on the public to share any information they may have. Deputy Joseph Puente of the Perris Sheriff’s Station can be reached at 951-210-1000, and the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at 951-776-1099.
