A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle near California State Long Beach early Wednesday morning. The collision took place around 5 a.m. at the junction of Seventh Street and Pepper Tree Lane, as per a report by the Long Beach Post.
The Long Beach Police Department confirmed the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries following the crash, the precise causes of which remain under investigation. The driver involved in the incident stayed on the scene, waiting for authorities to arrive.
Eastbound Seventh Street at Pepper Tree Lane was initially shut down for an extended period for traffic investigation purposes. The Long Beach Police Department provided detour instructions via Facebook, advising motorists to divert from Bellflower Boulevard to Pacific Coast Highway to Loynes Drive to North Studebaker Road to access the 22 Freeway on-ramp. The on-ramp to the eastbound 22 Freeway from North Studebaker Road was confirmed to be open.
The authorities have since reopened Seventh Street and the 22 Freeway entrance, following the completion of the on-site investigation. However, in the wake of the accident, the California State University Long Beach Police Department advised avoiding the Seventh Street campus entrance until further notice, recommending alternative routes to those traveling to the campus.
