An early morning crash on the I-20 Westbound Expressway near Moreland Ave. SE has claimed the life of a motorist, Atlanta police reported. In the pre-dawn hours of December 15th, emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a tragic collision involving a white sedan and a utility truck.
The initial investigation suggests that the white sedan attempted to transition off the rightmost lane, only to suddenly veer into the utility vehicle, which was parked and unoccupied on the shoulder as its operators were performing work on nearby light fixtures. The impact was powerful enough to send the sedan hurtling across the lanes, ultimately crashing into the interstate's wall and coming to rest in the leftmost lane.
Responding emergency medical services professionals pronounced the driver of the sedan dead at the scene. The Atlanta Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit arrived shortly thereafter to carefully examine all aspects of the incident. The driver's identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.
