A former New Hampshire firefighter is facing charges for allegedly setting a series of fires that plagued two towns over a period stretching more than a year. Nineteen-year-old Nathan Nichols of Weare was charged with five counts of felony arson, accused of starting multiple blazes, including some that consumed buildings, between May 2022 and September 2023 in Bradford and Warner, as reported by NBC Boston.
Details about Nichols' tenure as a firefighter with the Bradford Fire Department were not immediately clear, but the State Fire Marshal's Office indicated that he indeed was previously employed there. Nichols managed to quickly get released on personal recognizance and is now expected to appear before Merrimack County Superior Court on February 1, 2024.
The investigation into these unsettling events remains active and is being conducted collaboratively by the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office, the Bradford Police Department, and the Bradford Fire Department. With the probe ongoing, the authorities are appealing to the public for any additional information that possibly links them to other cases of arson in the area.
Those with knowledge about the fires are urged to come forward. Contact can be made through various channels, including the State Fire Marshal’s Office hotline at 603-223-4289 or via email at [email protected]., as pointed out by Boston 25 News.
