Chaos erupted on a Fort Worth street Tuesday night as a man suspected of setting off a burglar alarm opened fire on police before ultimately turning the gun on himself. The alarm call came from a business on the 700 block of North Beach Street just after 9 p.m., according to the Fort Worth Police.

At the scene, officers encountered a white male adult suspect and chased him on foot when he fled the premises shortly before 9:12 p.m. The situation escalated as the suspect fired multiple shots at the officers in pursuit. Police returned gunfire but there were no reports of injury to law enforcement or bystanders during this violent encounter.

The chase culminated with the suspect's fall down an embankment along the Hwy. 121 frontage road, ending with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Despite their earlier confrontation, officers provided immediate medical assistance to the incapacitated suspect. He was later transported to an area hospital and pronounced dead.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office has the task of confirming the suspect's identity, pending notification of the next of kin. A weapon was found on the scene, and as is routine for such critical incidents, a comprehensive investigation by the Major Case Unit and Internal Affairs is underway. The findings will be reviewed by the Tarrant County District Attorney's Office.
